Friends of Harvey Milk Plaza is transforming the historic intersection of Castro and Market streets into an enduring civic and cultural landmark. Construction on the voter-approved plaza begins in late 2026, and the Gallery remains the one element not yet funded. Located on the Castro Muni Station concourse level, it is where transit riders, residents and visitors will encounter the stories and people behind the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement — and be reminded that the fight for equity, dignity, and inclusion is unfinished. The Gallery is not a monument to the past. It is a call to action for the present.
