Drs. Julian and Raye Richardson, far right, pictured here with three of their four children, met as students at Tuskegee University and in 1960 founded Marcus Books, named for author and political activist Marcus Garvey, a Jamaican who founded the first Black nationalist movement in the U.S. The Richardsons also published Black authors, poets and artists through Success Printing Co., which Julian launched in 1946.
