Chinatown

Artist Jim Dong, a native San Franciscan, was 23 in 1972 when he founded Kearny Street Workshop, an artists’ collective based in the International Hotel on the edge of Chinatown. KSW started as a free summertime graphic arts workshop for students taught by an all-volunteer faculty of artists. In 1995, it became tax-exempt and moved to South Park with artist Nancy Hom at the helm. KSW is now located South of Market.
