Mission Bay Creek
Ruth Huffaker, born in Indiana in the 1920s, moved to San Francisco in 1950. In 1962, Ruth, who worked in electronics, and her husband Steve, a welder, built their first houseboat, berthed on Channel Street. Active in the houseboat and boater community, she was part of a successful effort in 1974 that stopped the city from evicting the people who lived in the floating neighborhood. .
