Aimee Knoll, owner of the Little Woman Market, a hangout for neighborhood residents, was born in Tahiti in 1905 and came to the U.S. in 1929. An online post from a man who frequented her store decades ago as a high school student remembers that she ran the place herself and served wrapped, premade sandwiches on French rolls for 50¢.
